Bassett Road - Victorian Apartment Refurbishment

Project Information

Located on the second floor of a converted Victorian house, the original layout of this 100 sqm. apartment was compartmentalised and lacked a logical flow between rooms. The client brief was for a large living area suitable for entertaining, alongside a spacious principal bedroom and dual function dressing room and spare room.

The layout has been completely reconfigured, with all non-structural walls removed. A carefully detailed wall of joinery became the key move that organises and divides the floor plan. Extending the full length of the property, it separates the private accommodation from a large, double aspect living space, and is “inhabited” with wardrobes, display shelves and cupboards.

The bespoke kitchen is conceived as a piece of furniture, with white oiled oak units and appliances cleverly integrated and hidden from view. Across the length of the living space, a recessed picture rail is built into the paneling, allowing artwork to be moved around without damaging the finish.

The joinery throughout the apartment was expertly crafted by studio EJ Ryder. The collaboration between architect, specialist joiner and contractor was pivotal on this project in resolving difficult junctions and achieving a high quality finish.

Through its simple concept, smart space planning and careful attention to detail, we believe this project has delivered a high quality and original home for our client.
