Novers Hill - Affordable Housing Development

A design approach focused on ecology and people

With an emphasis on green spaces

Project Information

Competition entry for the Novers Hill affordable housing competition in collaboration with Studio Fieldwork & Jonathan Cook Landscape Architects.

The competition was organised by Goram Homes & Bristol City Council to stimulate ideas for the re-development of a brown field site located on the edge of the ecologically diverse Western Slopes in South Bristol.

The competition brief posed a challenge that is faced nationally: how do you meet the fundamental housing needs of the local community whilst also safeguarding space for under-threat native wildlife?

Our approach balances these competing requirements by prioritising external spaces that bring together both nature and the community: ‘the spaces between’. Onto this framework, the proposed homes meet the local need to provide a mix of affordable housing types with the benefit of open views and access to greenery.
